'Every Picture Tells A Story' - Solo Exhibition,The Art Space,Cass Art, Islington, London. 3rd April -16th April 2017

This solo exhibition by Carol Tarn of portraits and narrative paintings is an exploration of the world that lies beneath the superficial surface. Whether describing a person, a vintage scene, or a small natural world, the story is revealed in small details that give clues and information about the subject. Her sitters are varied in age, background and occupation, they range from a homeless man and a street painter who  creates beautiful miniature chewing gum paintings through to actresses on the West End stage. In every case the direct gaze of her sitter is designed to draw the viewer in, to begin the dialogue and introduce the story.Expression, possessions, colour and surroundings are all used to give a glimpse into the sitter's world.
